  • Fresh strawberries

  • Fresh blueberries

  • 1 heaping teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

  • 1 pint of fresh heavy cream

  • Maple syrup to taste

  • A Mason jar or a pretty glass

  • Clean your strawberries and blueberries with a mix of filtered water, a teaspoon of baking soda, and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with the mother.

  • Soak for 5 mins. This will clean the fruit of pesticides and junk. Remember, even Organic can have traces on the outside.

  • Rinse with filtered water.

  • Blot your fruit with a non-bleached paper towel or set aside to dry.

Old-fashioned fresh whipped cream

  • If using a KitchenAid mixer: Chill bowl and add your cream, maple syrup to taste, and real vanilla extract. Whip till it has high peaks. One way to test this is to put a knife in the bowl. If it leaves a line, then it's done.

  • If using just a bowl and whisk: Chill the bowl, add ingredients, and whisk till it gets nice and thick.

*For a non-dairy option, see my coconut whipped cream recipe.

Now the fun part: layering and putting it all together!

  • Get your Mason jar or pretty glass.

  • Layer your fruit, strawberries, cream, blueberries, more cream, and a strawberry on top.

  • Garnish with fun 4th of July ornaments. Be creative.
